Course Outline

 Prepare to perform rigger and signalman tasks

  • Participate in risk assessment and lifting plan briefing for lifting operations as a rigger
  • Identify risks of lifting operation related to rigger and signalman at work site
  • Ascertain weight of loads
  • Determine the Centre of Gravity of regular and irregular loads
  • Conduct pre-lift inspection of crane, lifting gear and accessories
  • Select appropriate rigging equipment, lifting gears and accessories for lifting load
  • Check the serviceability of communication equipment and radio
  • Set up communications equipment and radio channels for safe lifting operations
  • Practice good housekeeping of communication equipment, crane lifting gear and accessories
  • Report any abnormalities/ defects in the crane, lifting gear, accessories and communication equipment according to standard operating proced

  • Observe and apply safety practices and hazard work site when carrying out rigger and signalman tasks
